Perfect warming drink for the fall and winter months! Just a few simple ingredients needed to make it. This is great to make on a weekend in a large batch and then just heat it up throughout the week when you need a warm beverage! The main ingredient to golden milk is turmeric, which gives it the beautiful gold color. Let's meet the herb that is the superpower to this drink....
Some of Turmeric's benefits:
Supports healthy response to internal inflammation, this is due to the active compound in turmeric called Curcumin. This compound is also to thank for all of the other amazing benefits found in turmeric such as...
Supports a robust immune system
Reduce joint pain and stiffness
High antioxidant affects
fights depression
chronic pain
Using ceylon cinnamon in this recipe is preferred, if you don't have it, you can add a pinch of black pepper. This is needed to help you absorb the curcumin from the turmeric. That is why in Indian cuisine, turmeric is always paired with black pepper or other herbs to boost turmeric's bioavailability in the body. Fresh turmeric root can usually be found near the fresh ginger root in stores. It will look almost the same, except for its bright yellow/orange color and much thinner skin compared to ginger.
Now that you are excited about all of the good this herb can do for you, here is a recipe to start integrating it into your life...
Golden Milk Recipe

Ingredients:
fresh turmeric root slices (or use the dried spice if that's what you have)
fresh ginger root slices
raw honey (or maple syrup if vegan)
2 cups Coconut milk (or other plant milk of choice)
1 Ceylon cinnamon stick
optional: ground nutmeg
Directions:
Place all of the herbs and spices into a small pot with the coconut milk. Don't add honey yet. Bring to a boil.
Once it begins to boil, lower heat to a simmer. Let it simmer for 15-20 minutes
If you have the time, it can sit and simmer longer to extract more of the flavor.
Once it's done, strain the herbs out and let it cool a bit.
Add honey as desired, I usually add about half a teaspoon for a 16oz. mug!
Enjoy!
Stores in the fridge for 3-4 days
